PIRIOU REGISTERS THE ORDER OF A 22M DANISH SEINE TRAWLER

14/06/2012

PIRIOU has just signed a contract for the construction of a 22m Danish seine trawler for delivery in Q1 2013 to the ARMEMENT COOPERATIF ARTISANAL VENDEEN (ACAV). Through this contract with a return customer to the company, PIRIOU returns to the traditional fishing sector and strengthens its ambition to participate to the French fishing fleet renewal.

The first Danish seine trawler conceived and built in France.

This contract is the result of a close collaboration between ACAV, MAURIC the naval architect’s office in charge of the project and CHANTIERS PIRIOU as shipbuilder. Mickael BAUD, the co-ship-owner, will assume the command of the vessel.

Up till now, the only vessels practising this fishing technique used to be classical but slightly transformed stern trawlers. For the first time, PIRIOU will build a vessel specifically designed for this kind of fishing. On the one hand, this technique reduces fuel consumption compared to a traditional trawler and on the other hand it leads to better quality of fish.

ACAV and PIRIOU: a historical relationship

Since 1988, PIRIOU has built 9 vessels (gillnetters and trawlers) from 18 to 22m in length, for ACAV. The last units delivered in 2005 were trawlers of 18m:

 « ARUNDEL », « MANBRISA » and « RENAISSANCE II ».
